My Photography Top 5 Tips On Getting The Best Out Of Your Headshots
When clients book me for a fresh set of photography headshots, sessions usually last for around an hour, which I find is the sweet spot for getting a great variety of images.
For some, it’s their first time in getting their portrait taken, and so that’s where I take time to prepare them ahead of the shoot in what to expect, and then come the day to talk through everything that we do. By adopting this approach we all have a load of fun and that relaxed atmosphere comes across in the final photos.
My main top 5 tips for getting the best out of your headshot photography session with me are:
Bring a choice of outfits, and make sure that they reflect you and your character well. We will go through them when you arrive and I can advise. There is usually time during a sessions for at least one outfit change. Oh, and make sure everything is ironed!
Ladies, have make up and hair all good on arrival, it saves a load of time. I do offer packages where I can supply a hair and makeup artist, so please do enquire if that’s of interest.
Let me know ahead of the shoot about you and what you’d like the images for (ie Spotlight or Linkedin), as it helps me get a good understanding of the style you are after.
Bring a friend! I welcome the idea of bringing someone along with you for moral support, it can be a load of fun and also they can make us tea.
Lastly, just be yourself. Forget whatever anyone else has had done with their headshots, this photography session is bespoke to you and can be whatever you want it to be.
I hope that helps! I genuinely enjoy every single portrait photography session that I do, and is so lovely getting to meet clients from all walks of life, it’s all incredibly rewarding.
